Our licence promises
Key Commitments
Every community radio station makes a set of key commitments to Ofcom: who it serves, where its studio is, and the community benefits it delivers. These are ours, for both our FM community licence and our digital (C-DSP) licence.
Revised CR Key Commitments (Community FM Licence)
Belfast 89FM is for people aged 55 and over in the City of Belfast, including music of appeal to the older audience. It combats social isolation by providing companionship and connections and serves as a platform for participation in the community.
The studio is located within the licensed coverage area.
The service provides a range of community benefits (social gain objectives mandated by statute) for the target community, both on-air and off-air, and in doing so achieves the following objectives:
- the facilitation of discussion and the expression of opinion;
- the provision (whether by means of programmes included in the service or otherwise) of education or training to individuals not employed by the person providing the service; and
- the better understanding of the particular community and the strengthening of links within it.
Members of the target community contribute to the operation and management of the service.
The service has mechanisms in place to ensure it is accountable to its target community.
April 2015. Revised September 2016; August 2022. Revised March 2025.

The Licensed Service shall have the characteristics of a Community Digital Sound Programme Service as set out in the 2019 Order and, in so doing, shall achieve the following objectives:
- the facilitation of discussion and the expression of opinion;
