Cookie Policy
The small number of cookies belfast89.com uses, what they do, and how to switch them off. Last updated 2 October 2026.
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which ones Belfast FM Ltd (Belfast 89, we, us) uses on belfast89.com, why we use them, and how you can control them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we look after your personal information more generally.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your computer, phone or tablet when you visit. They let the site remember things between pages and visits — for example, that you have already answered our cookie banner. Some cookies are set by us (first-party cookies) and some by services we use, such as Google (third-party cookies). Similar technologies, such as browser storage and pixels, work in much the same way and this policy covers them too.
How we use cookies
We keep cookies to a minimum. We use them for two purposes only:
- To make the site work and remember your choices. These are strictly necessary and do not need your consent.
- To understand how the site is used, so we can improve it. These analytics cookies are only set if you agree to them in our cookie banner.
We do not use cookies to show you advertising, and we do not sell information collected by cookies to anyone.
The cookies we use
Strictly necessary
These are needed for the site to work. They are set automatically and cannot be switched off in our banner, though you can block them in your browser (see below).
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| cookieyes-consent | Belfast 89 (CookieYes) | Remembers the choices you made in our cookie banner so we do not ask you again on every visit. | 1 year |
| wordpress_*, wp-settings-* | Belfast 89 | Only set for station staff who log in to edit the website. Visitors never receive these. | Session, or up to 1 year if “remember me” is ticked |
Analytics
When the website goes live we will use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages and features are popular. This tells us things like how many people listen online, which shows people look up, and whether the site works well on phones. The information is aggregated and does not identify you personally, and Google Analytics is only loaded after you choose Accept in our cookie banner.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Tells visits from the same browser apart with a random identifier. | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics | Keeps the current browsing session together. | 2 years |
Google may also receive your IP address and browser details when Analytics runs. You can read how Google uses this in the Google privacy and terms, and you can opt out everywhere with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Other services on the site
A few things on the site are delivered by other companies. They do not set cookies on belfast89.com, but your browser does contact their servers, which means they receive your IP address:
- Broadcast Radio delivers our live audio stream when you press play.
- Google Fonts supplies the typefaces the site is written in.
Our contact and volunteer forms store what you type on our own server and email it to the station; they do not set cookies.
Your choices
The first time you visit, our cookie banner lets you accept or reject analytics cookies. You can change your mind at any time:
If you reject analytics cookies, the site works exactly the same — we simply will not count your visit.
You can also control cookies through your browser, including deleting the ones already on your device and blocking new ones. Instructions for the main browsers are here: Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge. Blocking all cookies may stop the banner remembering your choice.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if the cookies we use change — for example if we add a new service to the site. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
